Program

A beautiful program of music from three top Sydney musicians whose careers are on an upward trajectory. Laments & Lullabies brings three instruments from the 2023 Classic 100 Instruments list together in a unique and unusual combination including the cello which was voted as Australia’s number 1 favourite.

Heather Lloyd - Viola

Heather Lloyd is an Australian violist who studied at Sydney Conservatorium and the Australian National Academy of Music. She has performed with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Scoring Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia and Auckland Chamber Orchestras. Heather is also a specialist in early music, performing with Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Bach Akademie Australia.

Michael Burden - Countertenor

Michael Burden is a countertenor who enjoys a varied career of operatic and concert repertoire. Recent highlights include performing as Nireno in Julius Caesar with Pinchgut Opera, Rosencrantz (cover) in Hamlet with Opera Australia, and Vivaldi's Stabat Mater with Brisbane Chamber Choir. He regularly performs around Australia as a soloist with period orchestras and contemporary ensembles.

James Larsen - Cello

James Larsen is a cellist, teacher, conductor and composer. He often performs as a concerto soloist, premiering works by Peter Sculthorpe, Arvo Pärt, Einojuhani Rautavaara, and over 30 Australian composers. James has been featured at festivals in Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and USA, and regularly plays with Nomad String Quartet.
